Look. I use Claude (sparingly). I have used it for a long time (sparingly!), and I am not going to sit here and pretend the bill doesn’t hurt. The prose is still the best in the business, the emotional range is something the other models can’t touch, and the way it handles character dynamics without you having to spell them out is a genuine superpower. The friction, beyond the price, is that Anthropic has been quietly adding new API-level safeguards to older Claude models, so things that worked last month may suddenly refuse. That part is annoying. It is what it is.
Three presets worth your time in June 2026:
Marinara’s Universal Preset (v10.0) – my Claude pick
Marinara built this with Claude as her #1 target, and the structure shows it. The big win is that it does NOT use a locked chain of thought, which means it works fine on Opus 4.8 where a lot of the older presets start refusing. The systems worth knowing: VAD Emotional Engine (Valence/Arousal/Dominance for NPC emotional states), the Evidence Rule that stops NPCs from going omniscient on you, and TOON Logic, a code structure that compresses the prompt instructions by 30-40% versus older versions.
The Claude-specific note: turn off the CoT module on Opus 4.8 and up. The FF author calls it out specifically. With that toggle off, the preset runs fine on 4.6 too.
